So-called diaspora Latvians are an intrinsic part of our nation and our country’s history. Many Latvians left the country at the end of WW2 to avoid Soviet repressions, and, like the majority of refugees and prisoners of war, ended up in West Germany’s refugee camps.
Left without job, property or home, what did the Latvian emigrants do in these camps? What made the former professors of Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian universities to join forces, and lay the foundation of a new, stronger Baltic community abroad?
